The Monmouth County SPCA is an animal welfare organization providing animal sheltering and cruelty investigation services to Monmouth County, New Jersey. ==History== The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in 1945 to care for the community’s homeless, neglected and abused animals.〔 It is a private, not-for-profit s. 501(c)3 organization led by a volunteer board of trustees. The organization is independent from and not affiliated with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Humane Society of the United States or other humane societies.〔 In 1999, the organization made the decision to become a no-kill shelter, saving all animals considered adoptable.〔 Since 2011, 90% or more of animals taken in have been saved.〔 The organization remains open-admission for communities it serves, taking owner surrenders by appointment.〔〔 In November 2014, the organization reported having animal sheltering contracts with communities in Atlantic Highlands, Deal, Eatontown, Highlands, Little Silver, Long Branch, Middletown, Belford, Lincroft, Ocean Township, Rumson, Sea Bright, Spring Lake Heights, and West Long Branch.〔("Lost & Found Pets" ), Monmouth County SPCA, accessed Nov. 16, 2014.〕 Animals available for adoption include dogs, cats, rabbits, pet rats, gerbils, hamsters, birds, and occasionally farm animals.
